Life U Women’s Rugby Team Makes History as D1 Elite National Champions

Sunday evening marked a historic moment for the Life University Women’s Rugby team as they clinched the D1 Elite National Champions title for the first time in the program's history. In a thrilling match against long-standing rival Lindenwood University, the Running Eagles displayed resilience and determination that ultimately led to their victory.

After a challenging first half, where they fell behind but fought back with impressive plays, the Running Eagles managed to even the score in the final minutes. The intense match culminated in a nail-biting finish that saw Life U emerge victorious with a final score of 44-41.

Following the monumental win, Head Coach Ryszard Chadwick praised both teams' performances, stating, "This was a great showcase for women’s rugby. What a performance from both teams. We have worked hard all year building a new standard for this program, and it showed in our grit and resilience."

Championship MVP Emma Haughey was recognized for her outstanding contribution to the team's success, although it was highlighted that the victory was the result of a full team effort. Nina Mason's exceptional performance in securing crucial points throughout the game was noted as a game-changer.

The match between Life U and Lindenwood set new records in the D1 Elite category, with the highest total points scored (85) and the most tries scored in a game (13). The win also marked the end of Lindenwood's dominance in the 15s format, solidifying Life U's place in rugby history.

Looking ahead, the Running Eagles are now focused on the upcoming 7s national tournament scheduled for May 4, maintaining their momentum and determination to continue their success in the sport.
