State Representative Sharon Cooper, along with State Representative Scott Hilton and State Senator Billy Hickman, will hold a press conference for the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Day on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in Atlanta. The event will focus on disability employment, ending subminimum wages, and strategies to maintain Georgia's status as a model employer.
According to Rep. Cooper, Rep. Hilton, and Sen. Hickman, House Bill 1125 aims to eliminate exemptions to minimum wage laws and prevent the payment of individuals with disabilities below the minimum wage. On the other hand, Senate Bill 384 will establish the State of Georgia as a Model Employer Program to support the recruitment, hiring, advancement, and retention of qualified individuals.
The press conference is scheduled to take place on the first floor of the Georgia State Capitol from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The legislators will address these important issues during the event.
Attendees are expected to include Rep. Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), Rep. Scott Hilton (R-Peachtree Corners), and Sen. Billy Hickman (R-Statesboro).
The press conference will provide insights into key legislative initiatives aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities in the workforce and advancing their rights.
