Reports from the Georgia Department of Education indicate that Kemp Elementary School enrolled 315 African American students in the 2024-25 school year, a 4% increase from the prior year.
The total enrollment for the school was 902 students during the 2024-25 school year. African American students comprised 35% of the total enrollment, making them the second-largest student group at the school.
Kemp Elementary School operates within Cobb County School District, whose headquarters are located in Marietta.
Of the 110 schools in the Cobb County School District, McEachern High School had the largest number of African American students during 2024-25, with 1,389 enrolled.
As detailed by the National Center for Education Statistics, public school enrollment in Georgia reflects approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander students.
Chronic absenteeism continues to pose a challenge for Georgia schools following the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. To address this issue, GaDOE started a statewide campaign, which offers a real-time attendance dashboard, promotes public awareness, and provides targeted aid to districts with high rates of absenteeism.
In 2025, Georgia passed legislative changes to attendance policies, prohibiting expulsion for absenteeism alone. These updates also include expanded reporting obligations and tie in with initiatives designed to help students achieve a diploma through nontraditional means.
By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, outperforming the national student-to-teacher average of 15:1.
