There were 293 African American students enrolled at Allatoona High School during the 2024-25 school year, a decrease of 4.2% compared to the prior year, reports from the Georgia Department of Education show.
Total enrollment reached 1,544 students for the 2024-25 school year. African American students accounted for 19% of that figure, making them the second-largest demographic group within the school.
Allatoona High School belongs to the Cobb County School District, which has its central office in Marietta.
Of the 110 schools in the Cobb County School District, McEachern High School reported the highest enrollment of African American students in 2024-25, with 1,389 students enrolled.
Figures from the National Center for Education Statistics indicate that public school students across Georgia were 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Chronic absenteeism has continued to impact Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE launched a statewide initiative to address the issue through a real-time attendance dashboard, a public information effort, and targeted interventions for districts with high needs to improve attendance rates.
In 2025, Georgia lawmakers updated attendance policies, enacting a law that prohibits expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The legislation also includes new requirements for reporting and supports alternative programs to help students complete their diplomas.
By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at approximately 14:1, which is more favorable than the national average of 15:1.
