Coaches Joe Soley of Allatoona High School and LaDesia Scott of McEachern High School have been named Coaches of the Month by Cobb County Schools. The recognition highlights their commitment to student development and school community involvement.

The Coach of the Month award, sponsored in partnership with the Atlanta Braves and Good Game Atlanta, is given to one female and one male coach each month across the district. Winners receive a complimentary one-night stay at Aloft Atlanta at The Battery and dinner provided by Good Game Atlanta.

“Our coaches teach a full day, and when the bell rings at 3:30, their work is only half done,” said Cobb’s Director of Athletics Don Baker.

Baker added, “This is a small token of our appreciation for their incredible efforts, both in and out of the classroom. They dedicate countless hours to supporting our student-athletes—often at the expense of time with their own families. We truly believe we have the best coaches in the state, and we want to celebrate them as often as we can.”

Coach Joseph Soley has led Allatoona’s volleyball program since 2008. Under his leadership, the Lady Bucs have reached the postseason for fifteen consecutive seasons and secured a state title in 2019. In addition to volleyball, he also coaches tennis and helps organize school events such as Homecoming.

“Coach Soley represents everything we value in an educator and coach,” said Allatoona Principal Lexie Bostick. “He is steady, dependable, and deeply committed to both his students and athletes. He leads with integrity and positivity, consistently modeling what it means to be a Buccaneer. In addition to leading our volleyball program to a state championship, Coach Soley also coaches tennis and is actively involved in student life. He helps organize and support events like Homecoming each year and is always one of the first to step up when something needs to be done. Allatoona is a better place because of him, and we are incredibly proud to call him one of our own.”

Buccaneer Athletic Director Chris Murray noted Soley’s broader impact on campus: “His involvement touches so many parts of campus life, and he’s always willing to help wherever he’s needed,” agreed Buccaneer Athletic Director Chris Murray. “Coach Soley has a heart and a passion for the Allatoona community and family. This passion translates into his work ethic and the job that he gets to do every day. He is a part of the school’s identity and a constant reminder of what it means to take pride in being part of this community. Coach Soley is a constant here and represents the heart and tradition of Allatoona.”

At McEachern High School, Coach LaDesia Scott was recognized for her leadership within cheerleading programs including support for special needs squads.

“Coach Scott is the embodiment of dedication, dependability, and hard work. As the leader of the cheer program, she sets a powerful example through her tireless commitment to excellence. Her support extends beyond her athletes. She uplifts her colleagues and contributes to a positive, collaborative school culture. Whether she’s coaching on the sidelines or mentoring behind the scenes, Coach Scott leads with integrity, passion, and a deep care for her students’ success,” said McEachern Principal Krystal Wattley.

Wattley also described Scott’s role outside athletics: “She’s a cornerstone of the McEachern family and has been an integral part of our school community since 2020. She is a constant presence at extracurricular events, showing unwavering support for her students in all their endeavors. Coach Scott regularly offers tutoring sessions outside of school hours, ensuring her students have the tools and encouragement they need to thrive both in the classroom and in life. She also participates in our Tribal Sparks Squad, an organization that promotes school spirit amongst staff. Coach Scott exemplifies what it means to be a McEachern Indian!”

Both coaches were praised as examples within Cobb County Schools.
