Chief Orrin Scott Hamilton has officially been sworn in to head the Austell Police Department as the first Black police chief in Cobb County history.

Hamilton was sworn in Friday at Austell’s Threadmill Complex, a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta said.

“My vision for the City of Austell Police Department is to ensure our department is reflective of the community we serve,” Hamilton said in a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta. “Community engagement and involvement is important to the mission.”

With nearly three decades as a member of law enforcement under his belt, Hamilton started his career with the Cobb County Police Department as a uniform police officer; FOX 5 reported.
