The Awtrey Middle School Community Outreach Committee has announced the launch of its annual Giving Tree initiative to support families in need during the holiday season. The program, which began on November 11, allows Awtrey staff members and adults in the school community to access an online platform where they can select ornaments representing specific toy and clothing requests from children who may otherwise not receive gifts.

“The ‘ornaments’ on a Giving Tree are the specific toy and clothing needs of children in our community who may not receive gifts otherwise. We hope to help the families of our students who need assistance with clothing and toy requests,” stated the committee.

The identities of participating families will remain confidential. Community members wishing to participate can purchase items listed through the Awtrey Giving Tree link. All purchased gifts should be delivered to Awtrey Middle School by December 10.

In addition to gift donations, monetary contributions are accepted and will be used for wrapping supplies or unmet Giving Tree needs. Checks should be made payable to AMS with “Giving Tree” noted in the memo section. The committee is also seeking donations of wrapping materials, which can be dropped off at the school’s main office.

“If you would like to make a monetary donation to the Giving Tree, which will be used for wrapping supplies and to fulfill Giving Tree needs that may not be met, you may make a check payable to AMS and include in the memo section ‘Giving Tree’,” explained organizers.

Anyone with questions about the program is encouraged to contact school counselors Alex Daniel or Mary Wade at alexandra.daniel@cobbk12.org or mary.wade@cobbk12.org.

“Thank you in advance for helping us celebrate this holiday season with our school community,” concluded the statement from the Community Outreach Committee.
