Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid visited the White House yesterday to participate in a forum called Communities in Action: Building a Better Georgia.
Chairwoman Cupid joined leaders of other Georgia counties to discuss opportunities to improve communities using resources in the Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS and Science Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the American Rescue Plan. The conversations included members of the Biden administration, economists and congressional staff.
“Cobb County is fortunate to have a platform at the White House to be able to talk about how federal policies impact people on the local level,” Chairwoman Cupid said. “Other leaders across the state and I emphasized our appreciation for the president’s prioritization of equity. We expressed our concerns about how grant opportunities and programs reach all people and places as millions of dollars circulate in our economy. Top interests included strengthening policies around housing, workforce development, mental health, small business support and transportation.”
Following a briefing by White House and Cabinet leaders, the group shared stories about their use of the American Rescue Plan Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments. Later in the day, the participants met at the National Association of Counties headquarters for further discussion and to trade ideas with congressional staff.
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms welcomed the group. She is the Senior Advisor to the President for Public Engagement.
