Cobb County’s director of assessment and personalized learning, Lori Horn, discussed summer learning opportunities for students during an episode of The Inside Scoop podcast, according to an April 30 statement.
The discussion is important as it outlines academic support programs available to help students from kindergarten through high school. These programs aim to address both advancement and credit recovery needs, ensuring that students can prepare for the next grade or make up courses required for graduation.
Horn said that elementary and middle school programs are designed to help students be ready for the following school year. High school offerings focus on credit recovery so that “students retake failed courses, so they can stay on track for graduation.” She explained that registration processes differ depending on the program and grade level. For high school credit recovery, registration is open through May 22 in order to accommodate late needs. Transportation, meals, and attendance requirements remain consistent with those during the regular academic year.
Parents are encouraged to communicate with their child’s school about available resources. Horn said it is “an excellent opportunity to prepare for next year or make up needed classes.” She also stated that “education happens year-round,” highlighting Cobb’s various options for student engagement over the summer.
Pebblebrook High School participates in these district-wide efforts as part of the Cobb County School District; it serves students in the Mableton area and offers athletic programs supported by donations as well as performing arts presentations through its center for excellence, according to the official website. Dana Giles serves as principal at Pebblebrook High School.
Looking ahead, officials encourage families to explore these summer opportunities by listening to The Inside Scoop podcast or contacting their schools directly.
