The high school football season in Cobb County is set to begin this week, with games scheduled from Wednesday through Saturday. The opening game will take place at Kell High School on August 13, as the Longhorns host South Paulding in the second game of the 34th annual Dave Hunter + Corky Kell Classic.

Kell High School will also be the site for the first two games of Georgia’s high school football season. At 4:30 p.m., Prince Avenue Christian will play Callaway, followed by Kell facing South Paulding at 8 p.m. Kell, which finished last season with a 7-5 record, returns many experienced players and aims to compete strongly in Region 6-4A.

Later in the week, on August 16 at 4 p.m., Walton Raiders will meet McEachern Indians at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. McEachern has participated in every Corky Kell Classic since its start in 1992. Both teams are seeking improvement after early exits from last year’s GHSA playoffs.

Preseason rankings released by GA High School Football Daily show that Kell is ranked seventh overall in Class 4A, Sprayberry is tenth in Class 5A, and North Cobb, McEachern, and Walton are ranked seventh, twelfth, and fourteenth respectively in Class 6A.

Other Cobb County matchups on Friday include Adairsville at Allatoona, Campbell at Chapel Hill, Harrison at Kennesaw Mountain, Mt. View at Hillgrove, Lassiter at Midtown, Archer at North Cobb, Banneker at Osborne, Locust Grove at Pebblebrook, Pope at Cambridge, South Forsyth at South Cobb, Sprayberry at Alexander, and Wheeler at North Forsyth.
