A Cobb County, Georgia, Superior Court judge sentenced Frederick Woodard, 40, to life in prison for the rape and violent assault of his girlfriend.

Investigators said the charges come following a series of domestic incidents in 2020 involving his then 25-year-old girlfriend including several days in the summer of 2020 when he made roughly 70 “menacing messages and phone calls to the victim,” according to a recent Fox 5 Atlanta report.

“This case is not about the man who committed heinous acts on someone he should have cared for but about the woman who bravely stood up, faced him, and showed incredible resilience, courage, and strength for her story to be heard,” Assistant District Attorney, Dallas Cox, told Fox 5 Atlanta.

Woodard was found guilty of rape, aggravated assault strangulation, battery, and harassing communications, according to the report.

During the proceedings, authorities established that in June 2020, Woodard beat the victim over several days after she agreed to meet with him to calm him down and slow a flood of threatening and harassing messages. Authorities believe Woodard accused the victim of cheating during their relationship, Fox 5 reported.

In one episode, authorities said Woodard allegedly beat the victim over several hours with a gun and sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to escape after Woodard fell asleep, according to the report.

Woodard will serve life without the possibility of parole.
