Cobb County School District has announced the cancellation of all extracurricular activities and athletics scheduled for Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1. The decision follows a winter storm warning from the National Weather Service and a state of emergency declared by Governor Kemp. The district cited concerns about potential snow, freezing temperatures, and hazardous road conditions as reasons for the cancellations.

District officials stated that they are taking these steps early to allow families and staff time to plan and ensure safety. “With the potential for snow, well below-freezing temperatures, and slick roads, we’re making this call now so families and staff can plan and stay safe,” according to the announcement.

The school district said that both district-level and individual school teams will continue preparing campuses and monitoring weather conditions throughout the weekend. They advised families to expect further updates over the weekend due to uncertainties regarding how the storm may affect school operations on Monday.
