Durham Middle School reported enrollment of 598 white students for the 2024-25 school year, a 6% decrease from the prior year, according to figures from the Georgia Department of Education.
The data indicated a total of 981 students enrolled at Durham Middle School in 2024-25. White students comprised 61% of the population, making them the school’s largest demographic group.
The school operates within the Cobb County School District based in Marietta.
Of the 110 schools in Cobb County School District, Walton High School had the highest white student enrollment for 2024-25, with 1,561 students.
More than 1.7 million students attended Georgia public schools, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary grades saw the highest enrollment with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle schools at 388,733 (22.7%), and high schools with 539,092 students (31.4%).
The Georgia Department of Education reports that chronic absenteeism continued to challenge schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students absent for 10% or more of school days in 2024. In response, GaDOE launched a statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and additional support for districts with elevated needs to improve attendance.
In 2025, state lawmakers approved changes to school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely for absenteeism and introducing new reporting requirements. The updates also align with programs designed to help students earn diplomas through alternative methods.
As of 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, which is above the national average of 15:1.
