Durham Middle School announced on Mar. 25 that its annual library book fair raised $1,038.79, which will be used to purchase paperbacks for students completing March’s Read Across America Beanstack Challenge and to fund supplies for end-of-year celebrations including Lunch Bunch, Library Ambassadors, and next year’s Summer Reading Pizza Party.
The event is significant because it not only generated funds but also encouraged student engagement with literature and promoted reading within the school community. The school said the book fair gave students “valuable exposure to a wide variety of books and authors, helping them discover new interests, perspectives, and a deeper love of reading.”
A statement from the school included thanks to teachers who brought their classes to the event: “Your support allowed students to explore, preview, and connect with literature in meaningful ways–as well as to the parent volunteers who generously devoted their time to working at this year’s book fair.” Parent volunteers recognized by name were Casey Bowers, Ginger Frazier, Stephanie Kenny, Angela Pinkcombe, Lindsey Prewitt, Jennifer Morgan, Trina Weaver, and Kelly Wisherd.
