FOIA Request to City of Kennesaw Police Department regarding active employee roster on November 13, 2025.
The Cobb Reporter has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Kennesaw Police Department. The request seeks access to various records related to the department’s current employees. Specifically, the request calls for any roster, directory, staffing list, payroll record, or personnel summary that identifies all current employees within the police department. The requested information includes each employee’s name, job title or rank, sex or gender (if available in existing records), date of hire or appointment, and age or year of birth (only if included in public-facing records).
The request emphasizes the need for the most recent version of each type of roster if multiple versions exist, such as HR rosters, payroll rosters, sworn-officer rosters, and civilian-staff rosters. This request is made under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format.
As part of their commitment to transparency and accountability in government affairs reporting, Cobb Reporter has also requested a fee waiver citing their role as a media organization. They argue that access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling their professional responsibilities and providing transparency to the public.
This FOIA request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
