A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Cobb County Employee Retirement System Pension Plan on September 20, 2024. The request was made by us at Cobb Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we requested records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., specifically seeking information about all active employees and retired employees included in the organization’s pension fund for the year of 2023.

The data fields we asked for include last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, employer name, employment start date, employment end date, salary, compensation type, amount received per year, process date of each payment, last disbursement amount received by each employee or retiree, disbursement frequency as well as the contribution amount made in 2023.

As a media organization committed to reporting news to the public and holding public institutions accountable for their actions and operations, we believe that access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In light of this role in disseminating information to the public at large, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to work diligently towards providing transparency and shedding light on important local governmental affairs.
