Garrett Middle School announced on March 9 that it will hold an AVID Interest Night for parents and students on March 12 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the cafeteria and theater. The event aims to introduce families to the school’s AVID classes, which focus on helping students develop academic skills, organization, self-awareness, and provide opportunities such as college tours.

The school said the event is designed to inform families about how AVID classes can support student growth beyond traditional academics. “In AVID classes, students learn skills which make them a better student. They will also become more organized, self-aware and take college tours to learn about options after graduating from high school,” according to the announcement.

Garrett Middle School participates in Title I programs that offer additional resources for at-risk students, according to the official website. The school also promotes community involvement through traditions like its annual History Trek celebration and supports at-risk students via these Title I initiatives, as reported by the official website.

The campus features unique facilities such as the Vita Par Trail exercise path established in the 1980s and a Log Cabin built by students during 1975-1976, according to the official website. Garrett Middle School is part of the Cobb County School District, which has been recognized as one of Georgia’s best places to work, according to the official website.

The school states that it aims for student success through collaboration with families and community members in order to promote academic, social, and emotional development, according to the official website.

Light refreshments will be served at AVID Interest Night while supplies last.
