State Representatives David Wilkerson, Marvin Lim, Karen Lupton, and Lisa Campbell have announced that vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine, are now available to Georgians without a prescription.
“Every Georgian deserves access to life-saving vaccines without unnecessary barriers,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Our constituents deserve transparency when seeking access to healthcare, particularly following recent decisions by the federal government. This is about keeping our families healthy, our communities strong and ensuring that public health decisions are driven by science and accessibility, not bureaucratic red tape.”
The announcement comes after a roundtable discussion at the Georgia State Capitol where legislators heard from community members, healthcare professionals, and public health advocates about obstacles to vaccine access. The event focused on challenges related to recent federal actions affecting vaccine availability.
After the discussion, the group sent a letter to Governor Brian Kemp calling for immediate state-level measures to maintain timely access to vaccines as federal guidelines change.
The lawmakers noted that while new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has removed prescription requirements for COVID-19 vaccines and eased some concerns about access, they believe more permanent solutions are needed.
They plan to introduce legislation in 2026 aimed at ensuring ongoing protections so that all Georgians can receive necessary vaccines without delays caused by policy changes or funding issues.
