This week, two high school athletes have been named Cobb Schools Athletes of the Week for their performances both in sports and academics. Aiden Watson, a sophomore quarterback at Harrison High School, and Lyla Morici, a junior softball pitcher at Kell High School, received the honor with support from BSN Sports.
Aiden Watson has played a key role for the Harrison Hoyas football team. In a recent game against Pebblebrook, he threw five touchdown passes to four different receivers, contributing to a 49-14 victory. His leadership on the field is one reason why Harrison remains undefeated and is considered a contender for the Region 3-6A championship. In addition to football, Aiden also plays baseball for Harrison.
His coach, Luqman Salam, said: “Aiden brings a calm demeanor to his critical position as the leader of the offense. He manages and embraces this role with confidence and poise. He is an excellent student leader and teammate. He has been able to gain the respect of his peers and become one of our team leaders. Aiden is an outstanding young man with a very promising future on and off the field.”
Lyla Morici set new records at Kell High School by becoming the career strikeout leader with 490 strikeouts after her performance against Centennial. She also broke the school’s win record in the same week. Lyla leads her team both as a pitcher and hitter and has played softball for more than ten years.
Kell Head Coach Kevin Foster commented: “Lyla has been remarkable this season in the circle and in the batter’s box. This has given us an edge on both sides of the ball. She is a leader who constantly has a calm presence and steady focus, which helps keep her teammates grounded in every situation.”
Her leadership was also noted by Kell Athletic Director Oneisha Young: “She is an outstanding young woman both on and off the diamond! While her athletic talent is undeniable, she leads with humility and a genuine willingness to support her peers. Her positive and infectious energy shines in the weight room, where she consistently encourages and challenges others to give their very best.”
Both students are recognized not only for their athletic abilities but also for their impact within their school communities.
