Hillgrove High School reported an enrollment of 814 African American students for the 2024-25 school year, an increase of 2.8% compared with the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
The numbers show the school’s total enrollment reached 2,263 students during the 2024-25 school year. African American students comprised 36% of the student population, making them the second-largest demographic at Hillgrove.
The school is part of Cobb County School District, which has its headquarters in Marietta.
Within the 110 campuses of Cobb County School District, McEachern High School had the largest number of African American students for 2024-25, enrolling 1,389 students.
Reported statewide public school enrollment in Georgia exceeded 1.7 million students, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary students made up the largest group, totaling 787,206 (45.9%), followed by middle school at 388,733 (22.7%), and high school at 539,092 (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to affect Georgia schools, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, Georgia Department of Education data shows. To address this, GaDOE implemented a statewide plan that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, increased public outreach, and focused support for districts with higher needs to improve daily attendance rates.
In 2025, Georgia legislators enacted changes to school attendance laws to prohibit expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The law also creates new reporting obligations and coordinates with programs that provide alternative diploma pathways for students.
By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, a lower ratio than the national average of 15:1.
