House study committee to examine smoking costs at third Atlanta meeting

The House Study Committee on the Costs and Effects of Smoking will hold its third meeting in Atlanta on August 21, 2025. State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta) serves as chair of the committee, which was established by House Resolution 304.

The committee’s purpose is to study various impacts related to smoking. This includes examining both short-term and long-term health care costs, the effects on Medicaid and Medicare programs, childhood health costs resulting from secondhand smoke exposure, and loss of worker productivity due to smoking.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 21 at 10 a.m., taking place in room 406 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta. Information about how to access the live stream is available online.
