Cobb County School District has announced the first recipients of its Athlete of the Week (AOW) program for the 2025-26 school year. The weekly recognition highlights male and female student-athletes who excel in their sport, academics, and school communities. The program is supported by BSN Sports.

This year’s initial honorees are Nola Tylke from Harrison High School and Quinterrius “Moonie” Gipson from Kell High School.

Nola Tylke, a junior at Harrison, plays fastpitch softball. She led her team with five home runs and 13 RBIs over four games, contributing to victories against Lassiter, Pope, Sequoyah, and North Paulding. Last season, she was named Region 3-6A Player of the Year and made the GACA 2nd Team All-State. Tylke maintains a 4.2 GPA and has received a scholar-athlete award. She was also selected for the 2025 Premier Girls Fastpitch All-American Futures Game, which features top players nationwide and is broadcast on ESPN3 and ESPN+.

“Nola is a leader in our program both on and off the field,” said her coach Richard Dombrowsky. “She carries herself with quiet confidence and exemplifies her leadership by her actions, always modeling a tremendous work ethic. She is the player that her coaches and teammates trust because she will give her full commitment to whatever is in front of us and be where her feet are in every situation.”

“She is an outstanding young lady and a quiet leader in our building,” said Hoya Athletic Director Wes Ellis. “She is a great representation of the standards and character of a Harrison student and a phenomenal athlete. We are blessed to have her as a student and athlete here at Harrison!”

Quinterrius “Moonie” Gipson represents Kell High School as a running back on the football team. In Kell’s opening game during the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, he recorded 15 carries for 196 yards with two touchdowns, plus another touchdown from an 18-yard reception during their win over South Paulding. Gipson is also part of Kell’s track team as a state qualifier in the 4×1 relay.

“Moonie is a great talent and asset to our team. When he is doing well, the team follows suit,” said Kell Head Coach Bobby May. “He is a quiet leader, and his teammates and classmates look up to him because of his confidence and leadership on and off the field. He is always open to hearing my feedback, whether it’s after Friday night games or about his academics.”

“He is a great kid in every way!” added Kell Athletic Director Oneisha Young. “He shows respect and kindness on the field and in the classroom. Moonie currently has a 3.4 GPA and 47 athletic scholarship offers, including UGA, Alabama, and Texas.”

Both students were recognized for representing their schools positively through athletics as well as academic achievement.
