Heather McCann has been named the 2026 Volunteer of the Year at King Springs Elementary School. McCann serves as the PTA Vice President of Fundraising Sponsorships, where she works to secure resources for the school by partnering with local businesses and organizations. Her efforts support student programs, enhance school events, and provide additional learning opportunities.

King Springs Elementary is part of the Cobb County School District and is recognized for its strong community engagement through fundraising initiatives for various school projects. The school also offers after-school programs, gifted education opportunities, and collaborates with organizations such as the American Heart Association via the Kids Heart Challenge. More information about these programs can be found on their official website.

McCann was honored at the districtwide 2026 Cobb Schools Volunteer of the Year Luncheon, which was held in partnership with the Cobb Schools Foundation. The event celebrated volunteers from across elementary, middle, and high schools in Cobb County who contribute to student success.

During the luncheon, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale addressed attendees: “When over 8,000 seniors walk across our stages each year, every single team member has had an impact on their success,” he shared. “And that includes you.”

He also noted that daily acts—such as greeting students at arrival or encouraging a struggling reader—can have a lasting effect on students’ lives.

Foundation leaders highlighted how volunteers play important roles in family stabilization and expanding opportunities for all 107,000 students in Cobb County schools.

The luncheon emphasized that volunteering represents generosity without expectation and commitment without compensation. Honorees like McCann reflect thousands of individuals throughout Cobb County who support schools by leading boards, organizing events such as book fairs, repairing library books, translating for families, coaching teams or consistently showing up to help.

King Springs Elementary continues to foster community involvement while serving as an educational institution within Cobb County School District—a district known for superior student performance according to its official website.
