Mr. Ronnell Mathews has been named Teacher of the Year at King Springs Elementary School, following an announcement made during a staff meeting on March 3. Mr. Mathews, who teaches fourth grade, was nominated by fellow teacher Hannah Smith.
Mrs. Smith praised Mr. Mathews for his commitment to students and his positive classroom environment. “Mr. Mathews goes above and beyond for his students every single day, creating a classroom that is both welcoming and motivating,” she said.
According to Mrs. Smith, Mr. Mathews not only builds strong relationships with students through thoughtful gestures but also leads them to achieve high academic results within the school.
With advanced degrees in mathematics, Mr. Mathews is recognized for making complex math topics accessible to all learners. “There is something special about the way he teaches—students don’t just learn the material; they truly understand it,” Mrs. Smith added.
She also highlighted his role as a supportive colleague: “As a colleague, Mr. Mathews is respectful, focused, and purposeful. He values time and collaboration and working with him is always meaningful.” She continued, “In just two years, I have grown more as an educator under his guidance than I did in many years before.”
Mr. Mathews brings 32 years of teaching experience to King Springs Elementary School and continues to influence both students and staff through his dedication to education. “He exemplifies excellence in education and is truly one of a kind,” Mrs. Smith stated.
