Cobb County police are investigating after Kennesaw State University students found a racial slur spray painted on the wall of their off-campus apartment building.
In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, students residing in The Indy told officers that when they stepped out of their third-floor apartments one of the first things they noticed that morning was the N-word written in big, bold letters across a hallway wall.
“Within our community here at the Indy, this had residents very mad, angry, disappointed and quite shocked,” senior Bhavin Patel told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Management at the apartment complex has since sent an email to residents of the building notifying them of the vandalism, adding that the offensive scribble has since been painted over, even though some students stressed that erasing the memory of their ordeal will take more than that.
With this, students emphasized the vandalism as a part of a larger issue and recognized it as an unfulfilled promise by the complex to install more security cameras around the building, citing a lack of accountability and transparency that needs to change.
“When I first saw the picture, it made me feel as if we’re not in a safe environment. For some of the upper management that works at the Indy, would you want your children living here? Would you be okay with them seeing this image on the wall?” student A’Nia Sims told FOX 5 Atlanta.
