The McEachern High School football team moved up in the state rankings after a decisive win against North Cobb on Friday night. Previously unranked in Class 6A, the Indians are now ranked sixth, their highest position since their 2019 region championship season.
“We ran the ball extremely well and controlled the clock offensively,” said Indian Head Coach Kareem Reid. “On defense, we put together another outstanding performance holding them under 80 yards passing and less than 100 yards rushing.”
Running back Henry Pullen scored all of McEachern’s points during the second quarter, rushing for 223 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Calvin Pittman Jr.
“Henry had a special night, running for over 200 yards,” Coach Reid said. “We knew we were going to lean on him all night, and he answered the call!”
McEachern’s defense limited North Cobb to just 155 total yards and intercepted their quarterback Teddy Jarrard twice. Linebackers Brayden Matthews and Michai Rowe contributed five tackles-for-loss combined. The defensive unit consistently stopped North Cobb whenever they gained momentum.
Coach Reid acknowledged areas for improvement ahead of next week’s game against Marietta: “We need to tackle a little better and limit self-inflicted wounds with penalties,” he said.
At halftime, McEachern honored alumnus Ace Bailey by retiring his high school jersey number four. Bailey played one season at Rutgers before being selected fifth overall in the NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. Retired principal Regina Montgomery attended the ceremony alongside Bailey.
McEachern will face Marietta at Northcutt Stadium this Friday, while North Cobb travels to East Coweta for their third game of the season.
