McEachern High School announced on Mar. 6 that it will celebrate Exceptional Children’s Week from March 9 to 13, following the district’s designation of this annual event. The theme for this year is “Soaring Beyond Limits: Celebrating Exceptional Children.”
The week aims to raise awareness and support for students with exceptionalities by encouraging staff to wear specific colors each day, each representing a different exceptionality. Monday is dedicated to Other Health Impairment with orange, Tuesday to Intellectual Disability with red, Wednesday to Specific Learning Disability with gold, Thursday to Emotional Behavioral Disability with green, and Friday to Autism Spectrum Disorder with blue.
Staff members who participate by wearing the designated color can enter a raffle during lunch periods at a table in the cafeteria. The school said eight teachers will be selected on Friday after lunch to receive gift cards provided by Mr. Terry Johnson. Participants can increase their chances of winning by joining in on multiple days.
The announcement also includes a request for teachers to discuss inclusion with their students during the week. “Our goal is to help students build awareness and develop a better understanding of their peers,” the Special Education Department said.
According to the official school website, McEachern High School builds a diverse community that encourages student participation in traditions and values family involvement for academic and social growth. The school maintains a safe and attractive campus environment to promote effective teaching and learning according to the official school website. McEachern operates within the Cobb County School District, which is recognized for its excellence in education according to the official school website.
The school’s leadership team includes principal Krystal Wattley and assistant principals Kyle Adkins, Valencia Andrews, Tina Hadley, and James Lockhart according to the official school website. McEachern High School has received six years of accreditation through Cognia’s review process according to the official school website.
The Special Education Department said it appreciates staff support in making Exceptional Children’s Week meaningful and inclusive for everyone.
