Christopher Golden has been sentenced to consecutive life sentences after pleading guilty to the murders of Cobb County deputies Jonathan Koleski and Marshall Ervin Jr. last September.

In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Cobb County District Attorney Flynn Broady said they came to a mutual decision to end the case with a plea.

“That evildoer has stood before god and man and acknowledged what he did. Our hearts are still hurting, but tonight we’ll sleep a little softer knowing this case is behind us,” Sheriff Craig Owens told FOX 5 Atlanta.

While Broady said he was prepared to seek the death penalty in the case, but, after speaking with the families of the victims, he decided to accept the plea and not to put them through the ordeal of hearings and a trial.

According to the report, Christopher Golden and Christopher Cook were both taken into custody soon after the September shooting following a brief standoff in Marietta, with Golden being charged as the triggerman in both deadly shootings and Cook now facing theft by taking charges.

Judge Julie Adams Jacobs wasn’t shy about chastising Golden in her courtroom, instructing him “You’re going to have a long time to think about your actions and how senseless and violent it was, and you can think about the impact your actions had on this family and this community.”
