Evelyn Pacheco, a senior at Pebblebrook High School, is preparing to graduate this spring as the first person in her family to complete high school, according to an April 14 announcement.

Pacheco’s story highlights the challenges and achievements faced by many students. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household with limited financial resources, she worked hard to overcome language barriers and succeed academically. “I grew up in a small household with a lot of people. Money was a struggle, but it was ok,” said Pacheco.

Pacheco also excelled as a Dual Enrollment student at Chattahoochee Technical College and plans to pursue nursing. She said her decision was influenced by an accident she experienced as a child that inspired her desire to help others. “I’m going to be the first person in my family to graduate from high school — first generation,” said Pacheco.

Reflecting on her journey, Pacheco credited her mother for making sacrifices as a single parent. “I’m going to think about my mother and what she’s going to think about me. And of course, I’m going to be emotional because everything I did was because of my mother,” she said.

Pebblebrook’s bilingual school counselor Karen Grannis praised Pacheco: “She is an excellent example of any student who ever doubts whether they can do it or not. You can. Because if Evelyn could do it, everyone can do it too.” After donning her cap and gown, Pacheco visited teachers’ classrooms to thank them for their support.

Pebblebrook High School serves students in the Mableton area as part of the Cobb County School District according to its official website. The school hosts performing arts presentations through its center for excellence and supports athletic programs that benefit from donations according to the same source. Facilities include multiple gyms, with one added in 1997 as reported by the official website. Dana Giles serves as principal according to Pebblebrook’s website.

As graduation approaches, Cobb Schools will continue highlighting inspiring seniors from the Class of 2026.
