Lewis Elementary School will celebrate Read Across America Week from March 3 to March 6, with activities aimed at encouraging reading and community participation. The event begins after a digital learning day on Monday, March 2.

Throughout the week, students can participate in the “Get Caught Reading” initiative. Teachers will hand out tickets when they observe students reading during appropriate times in class. These tickets are entered into a drawing box in the media center, and selected winners will receive prizes.

The school has also organized themed dress-up days: Tuesday is “The Cat in the Hat Day,” where students are encouraged to wear hats or headbands; Wednesday is “Wacky Wednesday,” with mismatched or backwards clothing; Thursday is “Green Eggs and Ham Day,” featuring green outfits; and Friday is “Fox in Socks Day,” when students can wear unusual socks. Spring Picture Day also takes place on Friday.

Kennesaw State University student athletes will visit as guest readers during the week, sharing stories with students. The partnership aims to provide positive role models for Lewis Elementary’s students.

Classrooms are invited to decorate their doors with reading or Dr. Seuss themes. Photos of decorated doors will be featured on morning announcements throughout Read Across America Week.

Lewis Elementary School regularly promotes community involvement through educational programs and family engagement initiatives, as detailed on its official website. The school offers hands-on learning opportunities through its makerspace, focusing on skills such as measurement and music. It belongs to the Cobb County School District, which has been recognized as one of Georgia’s top workplaces for seven years according to district information.

In addition to fostering student success through data-driven instruction and achievement strategies, Lewis Elementary engages families through various programs including heart health fundraising and student involvement efforts. More details about these initiatives can be found on the school’s website.
