City of Powder Springs issued the following announcement on July 15.
The City of Powder Springs will no longer allow pets within its parks during official city events such as concerts or festivals, with the exception of specific pet friendly events such as “Bark in the Park.” The ban does not affect service dogs, which remain allowed per Americans with Disability Act requirements.
The decision follows a recent incident involving two dogs where one attacked the other. Also of concern were possible reaction by animals to loud noises such as musical performers or fireworks displays, or distress caused by large crowds. For the safety of the animals and the general public, the city is making this change to restrict pet access to non-event hours.
Barring pets will also allow more people to attend popular events, such as the “Sounds of the Springs Concert Series.” This policy will take effect Saturday, July 17, for the first concert of the series, which will feature Uptown Funk: Bruno Mars Tribute Band.
No animals of any kind, service dogs or otherwise, are allowed in the Thurman Springs Park splash pad area at any time.
Pets will otherwise be allowed within city parks per each respective park’s policies, such as keeping animals on leash and cleaning up after them.
