In its quest to return to the National League Championship Series for perhaps a more successful outcome, the Atlanta Braves have turned to a World Series hero to help them.
Ace Charlie Morton took the bump for Atlanta in its NL Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Morton is best known as the Houston Astros’ successful closer in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"Much of the baseball world took notice of Morton while he helped the Astros win the 2017 World Series," MLB.com said. "Morton posted a 1.45 ERA over nine postseason appearances (eight starts) from Game 7 of the '17 American League Championship Series through Game 7 of the '20 ALCS (when he was with the Rays)."
The Braves’ confidence in Morton is rooted in the sub-2.00 ERA he posted over final 19 regular seasons starts, as well as his 3.38 ERA in 13 career playoff starts, MLB.com said.
