A man from East Cobb raised $20K through a "mega" swim event that took place on Sept. 11 for a 9/11 aid group. 

Jim Whitcomb of East Cobb participated in the MEGA swim, a 10-mile competition at Mountain View Aquatic Center, where he successfully raised $20K for Tunnels to Towers Foundation, a 9/11 foundation. 

"Come cheer on Mr. Jim Whitcomb in swimming 10 miles for his Swim2Help campaign! He is raising money for veterans, first responders, and their families. Mr. Whitcomb plans to swim on September 10th at 6:01 am. They have raised $16,309. You can also swim alongside him to help support him. #Swim2Help’’ Instagram user Jas.Georgia said in a post on Sept. 7. 

The total money raised from Whitcomb's efforts was calculated Oct. 2, raising a total of $20,601 from 119 donors, according to East Cobb News. The money raised will be put towards families of military and first responders. 

With 82% of Whitcomb's goal reach, the money will be funded to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, which promises to deliver 120 mortgage-free houses for veterans, according to Tunnel2Towers.
