Despite not being able to play, Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has been attending his team's National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Honestly, this is one the hardest moments of my career, to be here at the stadium and not be able to join my teammates out there,” Acuña said through an interpreter Oct. 17 before Game 2, according to MLB.com. "There’s nothing you can do about that. So for me, it’s just about being here and continuing to give support as if I was playing."
With Acuña in attendance, the Braves were able to win the first two games of the series in walk-off fashion before falling to the Dodgers in the next three games.
According to MLB.com, Acuña continues to walk with a slight limp as he hopes to recover from a torn right anterior cruciate ligament he sustained on July 10 in a game against the Miami Marlins. He has said that he is not sure whether he would be able to return to the Braves lineup should the team make the World Series.
“I feel good, but in the same sense, I feel as good as I did about two months ago,” Acuña told MLB.com. “It’s kind of been a gradual process. But if I had to put a percentage on it, I’d say I’m about 70 percent. But that’s just my personal opinion as far as I’m feeling. But as far as the return and where I’m actually at, I leave those decisions up to the doctors and trainers.”
