Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman has seen it all with the only professional ballclub he’s ever suited up for.
Having been on Braves teams that languished in the middle of the National League East pack or flirted with residency in the division’s cellar, the hard-hitting California-born slugger who holds Canadian citizenship now has the chance to help the team that nabbed him more than a decade ago win its first World Series since 1995.
Count on Braves general manager Frank Wren to strongly vouch for the All-Star infielder.
“In Freddie’s case, there’s nothing not to like,” Wren told MLB.com. “He works, he’s accountable. He’s a great teammate. There were no worries in that regard. We felt really good going into it that he was going to be a real good player for a long time.”
Freeman, the reigning NL Most Valuable Player, is a key cog for Atlanta’s offense, recording three consecutive seasons of 30-plus homeruns, MLB reported.
A five-time All-Star, he also has two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove Award to his name.
As of this writing, the Braves struck first blood in the 2021 World Series by taking Game 1 over the Houston Astros 6-2. Freeman went 1-for-3 at the plate, banging an RBI late in the game to seal the win for Atlanta.
The Astros tied up the series in Game 2 with a 7-2 win.
