A Marietta woman was killed Nov. 16 in a hit-and-run crash while walking with her grandchildren and trying to cross Delk Road, according to WSB-TV.

“Those are both about 20 minutes from my house, that’s awful! Those poor children have to live with that memory. My heart goes out to the families involved in both killings mentioned. How do you not notice you hit a person? What absolute garbage,” Katie Downey said on Twitter.

58-year-old Debra Jones was attempting to cross Delk Road with her two elementary-school-aged grandchildren around 8:50 p.m. when she was hit by an unknown vehicle, WSB-TV reported.

Jones was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she later died, WSB-TV said. The grandchildren did not have any injuries.

63-year-old Howard Arden of Dunwoody was charged with felony hit and run and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, WSB-TV reported.

Arden called in the crash 30 minutes after it happened, WSB-TV said. He told the Marietta Police Department that he may have struck something or someone on Delk Road with his 2013 Kia Sorento, WSB-TV reported. Arden told police that it was only after he returned home that he saw the damage to his car.

Dunwoody Police took Howard into custody with the help of the Marietta Police Department, according to WSB-TV.

This is the second hit-and-run incident that has taken place in the area this month. On Nov. 15, a man died after he was hit by a car near Kennesaw State University’s Marietta campus, WSB-TV reported. According to the police, the accused driver, 43-year-old Kevin Alstead, fled the scene after the crash. With the help of the KSU police, Alstead was later tracked down on the campus of the university by a Marietta police K9, WSB-TV said.
