COBB SCHOOLS: Cobb Families Choose Learning Option for Second Semester

Keyboard(1000)

Cobb Schools issued the following announcement on Nov. 11.

Providing families with choice has been an ongoing priority for Cobb Schools. In keeping with that priority, the District opened an online learning lottery in October. About 98% of Cobb families chose in-person learning for the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year.

About 830 students who entered the online learning lottery were awarded a space in either the Elementary Virtual Program or the Cobb Online Learning Academy for the second semester of the school year. All students currently enrolled in the District and entered the lottery for COLA were awarded a space. When combined with the number of students already enrolled in online learning, the total number of Cobb students across all levels who will be enrolled in online learning instead of face-to-face instruction for the Spring semester stands at about 2,400.

“While the vast majority of our parents continue to choose in-person learning, the Superintendent values parent choice, and I am proud that we have been able to provide so many opportunities for Cobb families to choose the learning option that fits their needs,” said Board Chair Randy Scamihorn. “Our staff is  committed to helping our students succeed in a way that works for them and their families.”

The lottery was open to all students (PK-12th grade) for seats in the Elementary Virtual Program (EVP) or Cobb Online Learning Academy (COLA) at Cobb Horizon starting in January 2022.

Students who opted for the Elementary Virtual Program will remain enrolled in their current schools but will receive all instruction virtually from a certified EVP teacher starting in January. Middle and high school lottery winners will be withdrawn from their current schools and enrolled in COLA for the spring semester.
