Vernon Jones ended his run for Georgia Governor and, days later, is now endorsed by former President Donald Trump for a seat in the 10th Congressional District.

This has been expected by political observers for some time. Jones has forged a number of political ties with Trump over the past two years, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

"He's an America-first fighter, who will never back down to the establishment or the radical left" Trump said in a video on Rumble.

Concurrently, Jones threw his support behind former Sen. David Perdue in the gubernatorial race — the same candidate endorsed by Trump, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Both candidates were running against incumbent Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

"I’m proud to have President Trump’s endorsement, confidence and support as I seek to represent the people of Georgia’s 10th Congressional District" Jones said in a tweet. "America First movement is alive and well! The squad better get ready!"

Jones was formerly a Democrat, but switched parties two years ago. He has strong ties with Trump, endorsing him in 2020 to signify his party change and acting as a keynote speaker at the 2020 Republican National Convention where Trump was renominated, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. In Trump's endorsement video posted to Rumble, he praised Jones for his support during the controversies following the 2020 election.

The 10th District in Georgia is southeast of Atlanta and extends all the way to Augusta, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Other Republican nominees for the seat include Patrick Witt, Mike Collins and Rep. Timothy Barr. Rep. Jody Hice currently holds the seat, but is retiring to run for Georgia Secretary of State.

Past experience for Jones includes a stint as a Georgia Representative and a CEO of DeKalb County, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
