City of Powder Springs issued the following announcement on Feb. 14.
Assistance for mortgage or housing expenses may be available for Georgia homeowners who suffered a financial hardship caused by the pandemic. Application volume is expected to be heavy. Reach out to your lender if immediate assistance is needed.
Program Overview
The State of Georgia received $354 million from U.S. Treasury’s Homeowner Assistance Fund, established by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, to provide relief to homeowners who suffered a financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs will administer the Homeowners Assistance Fund program and offer the following types of assistance to eligible homeowners:
Mortgage Reinstatement to catch up or reduce delinquent payments or payments currently in forbearance.
Principal Curtailment to reduce the loan balance of the mortgage if the homeowner suffered a permanent loss of income.
Assistance for some Housing Related Expenses may be available.
