The Marietta City Council has removed the interim from Marty Ferrell’s title, appointing the 32-year law enforcement veteran as the department’s next chief of police.

In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, City Manager Bill Bruton, Jr. said Ferrell has a long and distinguished career of dedicated service to the Marietta Police Department and the community, adding that his appointment as chief will continue the pattern of “exceptional leadership” for the department.

"It was a great honor to be able to recommend Marty Ferrell to become our next Chief of Police," Bruton, Jr. told FOX 5 Atlanta.

With more than three decades of service with the department, Ferrell has served in the Investigative, Uniform Patrol, Support Services and the Marietta-Cobb-Smyrna Narcotics Task Force divisions— the latter as Commander of the MPD SWAT Team.

According to the report, Ferrell was installed as permanent police chief after six people in total were interviewed for the job. This came alongside a nationwide search where over time he emerged from the pack as the top candidate.

Ferrell boasts a bachelor’s and master's degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University and is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum’s (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police, the report states.
