Marietta police chief Marty Ferrell is making history by promoting Major Tanya Twadell to the post of the county’s first-ever female deputy chief.

In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Ferrell said she was proud and honored to promote Twadell to the position.

“I am proud and honored to promote Tanya to Deputy Chief and appreciate her years of service and dedication to our city," said Chief Ferrell. "She is [well-deserved] of this promotion and consistently exemplifies a "can-do" mindset. I am confident that she will help us reach our vision for the future of the Marietta Police Department."

According to the report, Twaddell has been with the Marietta Police Department for more than two decades.

Over that time she has worked as a public information officer, in community outreach, homeland security, the office of professional standards, MCS narcotics, Technology Management and the Honor Guard, FOX 5 reports.

In addition to holding key positions in several areas of the department over her more than 25 years of service, during which she has served in the support services, uniform and investigations divisions, Twaddell is now also a member of the Marietta Athletic League and a co-chair of the Cobb County Child Abuse Protocol Committee.
