Marietta History Center’s Collections Manager named Georgia Museum Professional of the Year

The Marietta History Center is proud to announce, Christa McCay, MHC’s Collections Manager, has been awarded Museum Professional of the Year from the Georgia Association of Museums.  

Christa McCay holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Masters’ Degree in Heritage Preservation with an emphasis in Public History from Georgia State University. Over the past 18 years, Christa’s role has been to maintain, preserve and provide information on over 75,000 artifacts pertaining to the history of Marietta and Cobb County.  She also serves as the historian for the Marietta City Cemetery. 

MHC Director Amy Reed wrote in her letter of recommendation:

“I have been blessed not only to have watched Christa go above and beyond the role of Collections Manager in her everyday tasks but have benefitted from her guidance, her hard work ethic, her drive to excel among her peers and her never ending pursuit to help others succeed.”

Christa has served as a board member for the Georgia Association of Museums.  She currently serves as the Georgia representative for the Southeastern Registrars Association and as Georgia’s representative for the Awards committee of the American Association of State and Local History. She recently has been selected to serve on the Programs committee of the Southeastern Museums Conference. 

The Georgia Association of Museums is a statewide organization dedicated to serving a diverse membership in a way that establishes a responsive network, provides a resource base, and promotes professionalism so that Georgia's museum community is strong, effective, and proactive. This year’s conference was in held in Cartersville, Georgia with over 200 attendees from across the state.
