Chattahoochee Technical College is set to launch an esthetician program this fall, providing students with the opportunity to pursue careers in the beauty industry. Estheticians are licensed skin care professionals who offer facial treatments, makeup techniques, hair removal, and spa therapies.

The college’s Mountain View Campus in Cobb County is undergoing extensive renovations this summer to accommodate the new program. Students will gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting to ensure they are well-prepared for the workforce.

Instructor Hope Skapinetz is spearheading the initiative. “I envision a curriculum that balances theoretical knowledge with extensive real-world, hands-on practical experience,” said Skapinetz. “Ensuring that graduates pass state boards and enter the workforce with the skills and confidence to thrive in this competitive field.”

Skapinetz brings over 25 years of experience as a licensed esthetician. She has specialized in clinical esthetics, working closely with a plastic surgeon on preoperative and postoperative treatments. Additionally, she has served as lead esthetician in various spa settings and spent 14 years as a licensed esthetics instructor at the Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics.

At Chattahoochee Tech, students will receive comprehensive training in skincare techniques, product knowledge, and customer service. “This program will not only educate students in the latest beauty, skincare techniques and technologies but also prepare them to excel in clinical and spa environments,” said Skapinetz.

“Looking forward, my passion lies in establishing a new esthetician program that prioritizes the student experience,” added Skapinetz. “My goal is to create an environment that fosters support, patience, and growth.”

Students are encouraged to apply promptly to secure their spot for the fall semester. Final registration is on Wednesday, Aug. 14, with classes beginning Monday, Aug. 19.

Estheticians typically work in salons, beauty and health spas, and dermatologist offices; some are self-employed. To become licensed in Georgia, students must complete a licensed training program and pass both written and practical state examinations regulated by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for skincare specialists is projected to grow 9 percent between now and 2032—much faster than average for all occupations.
