The City of Powder Springs opened the application window for its Fall 2024 Neighborhood Beautification Grant program on Monday. The program awards between $500 and $4,000 for eligible visual improvement projects in neighborhoods, including entrances, common spaces, and building exteriors.
Applicants must provide a 100% funding match for the grant through any combination of funds and in-kind support, such as donations of materials or equipment and labor provided by volunteers or donated by contractors or other vendors. The grant application is available online and will only be accepted electronically. Completed applications are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2024. Further details can be found at cityofpowdersprings.org under the “Powder Springs News” heading.
Homeowners associations, neighborhood organizations, and similar neighborhood-based organizations are eligible to apply if they are open to anyone living in the neighborhood who meets membership requirements and target a specific geographic area. Multi-family residential property owners are also eligible to apply.
Grant awards will be decided during the week of Nov. 4, 2024, with projects needing completion by April 1, 2025, to qualify for funding.
Eligible work includes exterior improvements to common areas, entrances, and buildings in single-family residential neighborhoods and multi-family residential properties within Powder Springs' limits. Ineligible projects include roof repairs or replacement, security systems, general maintenance (except exterior painting), interior improvements, purchase of personal property or equipment, or projects where work has already started.
Project examples include installing neighborhood identification signage, organizing neighborhood cleanups, constructing playground equipment in vacant or public areas, and planting community gardens.
Priority will be given to projects that are highly visible to the public and contribute to improving the community's appearance while promoting its historic or unique character. Awarded projects must align with existing structures' design elements and current uses.
Grant awards will consider how well a project fulfills program objectives and its feasibility—including provisions for ongoing maintenance if applicable. Preference will go to older neighborhoods and properties with greater needs. At least one grant will be awarded within each ward of the city and one within the City's Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) study area.
