FOIA Request to Cobb County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Cobb Reporter have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was sent to the Cobb County Election Department and pertains to the upcoming spring elections.
We have asked for a list of all candidates running in these elections. The requested information includes the candidates' first, middle, and last names, as well as the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. We also requested details about each candidate's party affiliation.
In addition to this, we sought contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
