Sonic Edge, the acclaimed a cappella group from the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School, has successfully advanced to the semifinals of the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA). Their quarterfinal performance took place on February 7th at the University of Tennessee.
Competing against over 250 groups, Sonic Edge delivered a set featuring three songs: Retrograde by James Blake, My Days from The Notebook musical, and The Code by NEMO. Their performance earned them first place among nine competing groups, securing their advancement to the semifinals scheduled for March 7th at Carolina Theatre in Durham, North Carolina.
Elise Lloyd was recognized with the "Best Solo" award for her rendition of My Days. Trey Giddens, CCCEPA's Director of Vocal Music, praised the group's effort: "As the director of Sonic Edge, I couldn’t be more proud of the students’ hard work and dedication."
Giddens highlighted how returning members took on leadership roles within the group: "What’s even more inspiring is how...they performed flawlessly on stage." He emphasized their teamwork and spirit as key factors in their success.
The group consists of 17 vocalists from CCCEPA's Vocal Department. CCCEPA Director Robert Connor expressed his pride: "I am over the moon proud...the enthusiasm about the direction of our Vocal program has grown exponentially."
Connor noted feedback from patrons comparing Sonic Edge's performance level to that of college professionals. He added that what sets these students apart is their care for one another and collaboration.
As they prepare for the next stage in Durham, Sonic Edge remains focused on defending their national championship title.
