Clarke Schmidt, Born February 20, 1996, Acworth Native and MLB Player
Clarke Douglas Schmidt, born February 20, 1996, in Acworth, Georgia, is a pitcher for the New York Yankees. He attended Allatoona High School in Acworth before playing college baseball for the South Carolina Gamecocks. After a successful college career, Schmidt was drafted 16th overall by the Yankees in 2017. He made his MLB debut in 2020. Despite undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2017, Schmidt worked his way through the minor leagues, making his major league appearance in 2020. He earned his first MLB win in 2022 and recorded his first career save later that season. Schmidt’s path from Acworth to professional baseball demonstrates his resilience and dedication to the sport. His achievements serve as an inspiration to his hometown and beyond.
