Vaughan Elementary School is observing National School Bus Safety Week from October 20 to 24, expressing appreciation for its bus drivers and encouraging students to show gratitude through drawings or cards. The school is also conducting Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) for third and fifth graders from October 21 to 24, with families asked to ensure students arrive on time and prepared.

The annual “Thanks for Giving Food Drive” has started, collecting nonperishable food items until November 5 to support families in need. The school community is encouraged to participate in the effort to help others.

In the STEM Lab, students are engaging in activities such as gardening, experimenting with oobleck, and exploring magnets. These hands-on experiences are designed to foster curiosity and discovery.

Vaughan Elementary continues its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, recognizing students who demonstrate responsibility and positive behavior. This week’s PBIS raffle winners received Mission: Success stickers. Bus Behavior Superstars were also acknowledged for showing respect, responsibility, and safety while riding the bus.

Ten Vaughan students participated in the District XII Fifth Grade Honor Chorus at Turner Chapel AME Church in Marietta, joining over 400 other students from Cobb County. Under Dr. Craig Hurley’s direction, they performed in a concert attended by parents, friends, and administrators.

The PTSA is hosting volunteer training on October 20 at 9:00 AM in club rooms 1222 and 1223, covering volunteer procedures, confidentiality, and safety protocols. There will be no chicken biscuit sales this week due to testing, but sales will resume next week.

The PTSA Monster Mash event is scheduled for October 24 from 6 to 8 PM at Vaughan Elementary. Discounted ticket sales end October 20, with activities including food trucks, costumes, trunk-or-treat, and a pumpkin decorating contest. More information is available at http://www.vaughanptsa.org/monster-mash-2025.

Other upcoming events include the Family STEM Challenge Mission 2 due on October 28, accessible at https://www.cobbk12.org/vaughan/page/104819/stem, and Wacky Hair Day on October 31, which includes a $1 donation rally.

Nominations are open for October’s Staff Members of the Month through an online form at https://forms.office.com/r/hx5HxunKvc. Selected staff will have their names displayed on the school marquee and receive a prize.

Vaughan Elementary’s stated vision is to be “an innovative learning community achieving academic excellence for all,” with a mission to “Engage-Inspire-Achieve.”
