Vaughan Elementary School recently concluded its annual Rocket Blast fundraiser, which raised funds to enhance educational resources and experiences for students. According to school officials, donations from the event have already funded new instructional technology programs like Generation Genius and GimKit, updated laminating machines, classroom rugs, and instructional allotment funds for teachers.

The original plan included replacing the intermediate playground cover. However, after maintenance and an inspection by Cobb County School District (CCSD), it was determined that the existing cover remains in good condition. As a result, those funds will instead be used to modernize the school’s library. Planned updates include flexible seating, designated lesson spaces, and a refreshed makers space.

“We are just beginning this library project and cannot wait to share updates and photos as the transformation unfolds. Thank you again for your continued partnership and for investing in our students. Your generosity makes Vaughan an even more vibrant and inspiring place to learn!” a statement from the school read.

In other news, Vaughan is hosting its first annual Book Swap from February 23–26 in the school lobby ahead of Literacy Night on February 26 at 6 p.m., where students can exchange books.

The school will also celebrate Read Across America week from March 3-6 with activities such as guest readers, themed news programs, book talks, a “Masked Reader” event, and a Book Character Parade on March 6. Families are encouraged to help children prepare costumes of their favorite book characters for the parade.

Vaughan’s Reading Bowl team participated in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl at Hillgrove High School on Saturday, placing tenth out of thirty-two schools.

Additional student recognitions included Melonie as the PBIS Bus Winner for demonstrating respect, responsibility, and safety while riding the bus. The Vaughan Spirit Wear Winner was also announced with support from PTSA.

Staff members Lori Sproat (3rd grade teacher) and Jarmea Paden (IRR teacher) were recognized as Staff Members of the Month.

The PTSA’s Spring Fling event is scheduled for March 20 from 6–8 p.m., featuring food trucks, games, inflatables, and music. Presale tickets are available through March 13 at vaughanptsa.org/spring-fling-2026.

As part of Heart Month activities supported by Cobb County Schools in partnership with the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge initiatives, students learned about heart health through Finn’s Mission and began participating in related activities led by Coach Newsome during PE classes. Jump Rope Day will take place during Specials before the challenge concludes on February 27th.

Vaughan Elementary continues to emphasize student learning by implementing structured daily schedules to encourage punctuality and timely dismissal (official website). The school is located at 5950 Nichols Road in Powder Springs, Georgia (official website).

Key upcoming dates include Winter Break from February 16-20; Book Swap collection February 23-26; Literacy Night on February 26; and Kids Heart Challenge Day on February 27.
