Vaughan Elementary School is observing National School Lunch Week from October 14 to 17, expressing gratitude to its cafeteria staff for their daily efforts in providing meals to students. The school community is encouraged to show appreciation throughout the week.
On October 13, students participated in Digital Learning Day by studying from home while teachers engaged in professional development. The same week features early release days from Tuesday through Friday, with car rider pickup starting at 12:20 p.m. and buses departing at 12:30 p.m. No after-school clubs will meet during this period, and parents are reminded to ensure dismissal instructions are updated.
The school’s Conference Week coincides with these early release days. Parents are advised to remove temporary club dismissal overrides, as all clubs are canceled for the week. For any questions regarding dismissal procedures, parents can contact Stephanie Wells at 678-594-8298.
Support from families has contributed to STEM programming at Vaughan through events such as CFA Biscuit Sales, Spirit Nights, and FunClubs. This support has enabled activities like SCALY Adventures field trips, STEM journals for hands-on learning, supplies for STEM Day, professional learning opportunities for teachers, and prizes for family challenges conducted at home.
The library expressed thanks to families who supported the recent book fair and announced winners of the “Fall Into Reading” Beanstack challenge. The next reading initiative is titled “Hallow-Read.” Volunteers are sought to help with book shelving and student checkout; interested individuals should contact Emily Zolan via CTLS. Students can continue logging reading minutes on Beanstack to work toward a 300-minute goal and earn prizes.
For safety reasons, visitors must present a physical ID upon entry; digital IDs will not be accepted.
Cognia surveys for students, parents, and staff remain open until October 17. These anonymous surveys aim to gather feedback on academic learning and wellness during the current year. Results will inform Cognia Accreditation Agency, Cobb County School District, and local schools about learning environments and stakeholder input.
Student achievements were highlighted with recognition of PBIS Raffle Winners who demonstrated responsibility and positive behavior. Bus Behavior Superstars were also acknowledged for showing respect and safety on their rides.
Beth Glass and Kathryn Pritz were named Staff Members of the Month for September following nominations by peers. Brookstone Chick-fil-A provided prizes in support of this recognition program.
The PTSA recently hosted Movie Night as a free event for families. They are currently seeking volunteers for the Monster Mash Trunk-or-Treat event scheduled on Friday, October 24th from 6–7 p.m., where participants will decorate vehicle trunks and distribute candy (https://tinyurl.com/45d82pse).
In alignment with National School Lunch Week, Vaughan highlights healthy eating habits under Strong4Life’s “Eat Smarter, Drink Water” campaign this month.
